This class is designed to help business owners understand networking as a form of advertising with a purpose. During the class, attendees will learn how to properly network and with whom to network.

Family Tunes and Tales

Musical story time continues this Saturday, February 18 with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet and Kinder Duo. Musicians will bring stories to life through rhythmic tales.  Memphis Symphony Orchestra Kinder Duo will present “Tissues Please,” by Lisa Kopelke. Come and enjoy a mini concert with books, crafts, and light refreshments.
 
Concerts will be held in two locations—Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library and Cordova Library at 11 am.

 

Cordova Library Gardening Classes

 

Learn more about maintaining your houseplants from the experts of the Cordova Garden Club this Saturday, February 18 at 1 pm, at the Cordova Library Branch.
 
On Saturday, March 10 the Cordova Garden Club will return to the Cordova Library, from 10 am – 2 pm to talk about Perennials and Annuals in the Mid-South.
 
Children will get to learn all about gardening and caring for plants from members of the Cordova Garden Club, on Saturday, April 28 from 10 am – 2 pm, followed by gardening story time.

MPLIC Valentine’s Day events

There are lots of events planned at your community library today for Valentine’s Day! 

  • Frayser Library Branch will host two Valentine’s Day parties. 3 pm for Children and 4 pm for Teens.
  • North Library Brach will host Valentine’s Day craft making for Children at 4 pm.
 Many people believe Valentine’s Day is all about chocolates, roses and sappy songs about being in love. But if you are not feeling the love this Valentine’s Day, there is an event for you.
 
The Raleigh Library Branch will host “Love Bites” at 4 pm. Sing un-love songs in a karaoke sing-off contest and check out what’s new in vampire books from “Books that Bite.” Play lots of games and win prizes.
 
Make sure you check out your community library for other Valentine’s Day events.

 

Paws for Reading

The West TN R.E.A.D Therapy Dogs literacy program is designed to help children improve their reading skills. During the event children will read stories to the West TN R.E.A.D Therapy Dogs.

Artist Emery Franklin

“Music of Memphis” will be on display January 6, 2012 through February 1, 2012, in the Goodwyn Gallery at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library. Franklin’s newest works colorfully express the “Music of Memphis” through instruments from jazz ensembles with drums to a classical illustration on violin.

Local artist Emery Franklin is no stranger to the Mid-South. The native Memphian grew up in South Memphis and attended Vance Junior High School, where he developed his artistic talents. Emery Franklin’s artworks have been featured in local art galleries, offices, and homes throughout the United States.

Spring Get EnergySmart Workshops

Spring Get EnergySmart Workshops PosterMemphis Light Gas & Water, Tennessee Valley Authority, and the Memphis Public Library are offering a new round of Get EnergySmart @ Your Library workshops.

Get EnergySmart @ Your Library is a two-hour workshop that imparts practical tips and offers hands-on instruction. Attendees leave Get EnergySmart sessions with a tote valued at $50 that includes gadgets and tools to complete simple do-it-yourself projects that will save money and energy.

Programs are free. However, registration is required for the Get EnergySmart workshops; call the presenting branch to reserve a space.
